    CEBU CITY – Defending champion University of the Visayas got back at Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 78-45, on Saturday and remained in contention for a spot in the semifinals in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

    The Green Lancers avenged their 60-67 loss to the Wildcats in the first round.

    After a rough start, the Lancers have climbed back and now stand in third place with a 3-3 win-loss record. Despite the loss, CIT-U remained in fourth place with a 2-4 card.

    The top four at the end of the in the six-team double round-robin elimination round advance to the semifinals.

    The Lancers scored on transition attacks all game long with import Jeff Aguara providing the match’s highlight late in the second period. During a fast break, lead guard John Abad bounced the ball off the backboard to a trailing Aguara who leapt, caught the ball and ferociously slammed it home for a 43-16 halftime lead. It eventually ballooned to a high of 35 at 53-18.

    Abad, last year’s Finals MVP, scored 15 to lead the Lancers, while rookie John Soliva chipped in 14 markers.
