    UV Lancers keep unbeaten run in Cesafi with quick work of USPF Panthers

    CEBU CITY – University of the Visayas ripped University of Southern Philippines Foundation apart, 97-56, to stretch its unbeaten streak in the 15th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball competition on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum here.

    The writing on the wall was apparent as early as the first period when the Lancers got off to a 36-10 lead behind the combined 25 points of Cameroonian Steve Akomo, rookie Rey Suerte and skipper Franz Arong.

    The lead went as high as 85-47 late in the final canto.

    UV now leads the team standings with a clean 4-0 win-loss mark. while USPF remains winless in four games.

    The Green Lancers got 14 from Arong and 13 points and eight rebounds from Alwyn Aguirre. Suerte contributed a dozen markers.

    Meanwhile in the juniors division, two-time defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu barely broke a sweat in dispatching Don Bosco Greywolves, 69-38, for their fourth win in a row.

    Travis Mantua paced Sacred Heart with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Andrew Velasco and Errol Pastor chipped in 12 each.

    Don Bosco fell to 0-5 for the season.

    The USC Baby Warriors also notched their third win in as many games with a 57-49 trouncing Cebu Eastern College Dragons.

    Without the disqualified Mark Roa, CEC fell to a 1-3 record.
