    Sep 28, 2015

CEBU CITY — University of the Visayas’ Jun Manzo and Jancork Cabahug claimed MVP honors of their respective divisions in the All Star games of the 15th Cesafi basketball tournament on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Cabahug of the Baby Lancers scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the East to an 89-74 win over the West in the high school division.

Manzo dazzled fans and defenders alike with his fancy ballhandling and playmaking skills en route to an 18-point night that pushed the East to a 92-79 win over the West in the collegiate All Star game.

Steve Akomo and Alwyn Aguirre of UV scored 19 and 10, respectively, while Southwestern University’s Jan Auditor also had 10.

The West battled from a 20-point deficit and pulled to within seven, 73-80, on a floater by JR Puerto with 3:50 to go. But the East responded with a reverse lay-in by Akomo and a shotclock-beating triple by Melvin Holper for an 85-73 lead.

Manzo put the victory in the bag with a straightaway triple to raise the lead to 88-75, with 1:57 left.

Manzo and Akomo were joined on the All Star Mythical Five squad by Auditor, Aguirre and Puerto.

Named to the high school All Star Mythical Five were Cabahug, Ateneo de Cebu’s Travis Mantua and Jed Colonia, University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s Ain Obenza and the Cebu Eastern College’s James Tempra.
