CEBU CITY – University of the Visayas got back at University of Southern Philippines Foundation, drawing first blood in the championship showdown in the high school division of the Cesafi Partner’s Cup Preseason Tournament, 68-59, on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Eager to avenge a five-point loss earlier in the tournament, UV locked down the Baby Panthers and kept them from reaching double-figures in points until late in the second quarter after establishing a 34-8 lead that was punctuated by a tomahawk slam dunk by Leandro Actub.
The Baby Panthers trimmed the deficit to 25-36, early in the second, but the Baby Lancers kept on coming and brought the lead back to 17, 56-49, heading to the last period.
Actub led UV with 24 points while Joshua Yerro, added 14.
Kyle Ochavo was the only Organique Baby Panthers player to reach double figures with 10, as old reliables Neon Chavez and Chris Isabelo failed to find their mark.
