CEBU CITY – University of the Visayas look to complete a sweep of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and regain the championship as the Baby Lancers and Magis Eagles clash in Game Two of the 17th Cesafi high school basketball finals on Thursday afternoon at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Lancers are expected to put up the same frenetic defense that muzzled the normally fluid Ateneo de Cebu offense to a paltry 30 percent shooting clip.
Game Two is set at 5 p.m.
“Everything is mainly defense. All we need to do is focus on our defense,” said UV head coach Delfin Pepito.
“We have to be stronger and be more aggressive with it.”
UV got 14 points from Beirn Laurente, who is raring to go and bring back the crown to the Baby Lancers’ camp.
“I’m ready to give it my all. I don’t care if I die out there on the court so long as we come home with the title,” said the stocky guard.
UV came away with the win in the opener despite missing the usual production of JJ Rosete, who put up as many points (5) as fouls and turnovers.
The Mags Eagles, meanwhile, try to figure out a solid gameplan to extend the series to a decider.
For head coach Rommel Rasmo, it starts and ends with intensity, which they lacked in Game One.
“I have to give credit to UV. They had better intensity and hustle. They played their hearts out for 40 minutes. We need to match that for us to have a chance at extending the series,” said Rasmo.
