CEBU CITY — University of San Jose-Recoletos escaped sister squad University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 88-82, on Tuesday to advance in the Visayas-Mindanao qualifiers of the 2014 Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the Cebu Coliseum.
Kevin Villaranca scored a game-high 23 points including four straight in the last two minutes that pushed the Jaguars ahead for good.
Fletcher Galvez added 18 points, while Quintin Nzuzi had 11 markers.
The game was tied at 79 when Villafranca made consecutive baskets, while Galvez added another bucket in the shaded lane to give them an 86-79 lead with 59.5 ticks to go.
The victory earned the Jaguars a showdown with University of the Visayas.
Kim Dimaranan led the way for the Rams with 18 points while Coleen Testa contributed 16.
