    USC Warriors whip USJ-R Jaguars to stretch streak to eight and gain share of Cesafi lead

    CEBU CITY –University of San Carlos won its eighth game in a row, whipping University of San Jose-Recoletos, 67-47, on Tuesday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Congolese import Espoir Toyambe scored 15 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had three blocks, while Cameroonian reinforcement Shooster Olago scored 11 as the Warriors improved their record to 8-1 and gained a share of the lead with Southwestern University.

    Jaguars rookie Kevin Villafranca, who entered the game leading the league in scoring, was limited to just four points while James Regalado made just three.

    USJ-R gutted it out and pulled within three, 46-49, early in the fourth after a three-pointer by freshman Iron Suano. But the Warriors held their ground and held the Jaguars to a single point the rest of the way.

    The Jaguars, who are at 3-5, are holding on to the fourth spot and the last ticket to the semifinal round. Suano was the lone double-digit scorer for USJ-R with 10.

    In the juniors division, USC beat USJ-R, 66-50, to solidify their hold of third place with a 5-2 card.

    Jean Jacque Antigua had a solid all-around game with 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks as the Baby Warriors handed the Baby Jaguars their sixth loss in seven games.

    In the other game, Jules Langres scored 24 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to tow Cebu Institute of Technology-University (5-3) to an 80-75 win over University of Southern Philippines Foundation (3-4).
