CEBU CITY — Roosvelt Jelianggao took over late to lift University of San Carlos Warriors past the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 62-55, in the 2019 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Saturday, September 14, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Fresh off serving a one-game suspension after he was ejected during USC’s season-opening game, Jelianggao did not waste any time in making his presence felt as he poured in 16 points, four rebounds and two assists to spark the Warriors to the victory and improve their win-loss record to 2-1.
Trailing 33-40, USC came all the way back behind 14 straight points, eight coming from Jules Langres to help the Warriors go in front, 47-42, heading to the fourth period.

However, USJ-R did not back down and reclaimed the lead 52-51, after Johndel Robles nailed a triple at the top of the arc. But Jelliangao answered right back and scored a floater, a three-pointer and a stepback jumper as the shot clock expired to give USC a 58-52 lead with 1:57 to go.
Sommy Managor then canned a jumper from the keyhole while Froilan Mangubat split his charities to seal the victory for the Warriors.
Managor, USC’s student-athlete from Nigeria, chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists for USC.
Point guard Renz Solomon scored 17 points to lead the way for USJ-R, which dropped to 1-1.
