CEBU CITY – University of San Carlos pounced on the sluggish start of Southwestern University to score a 66-56 win in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
With Nigerian forward Sommy Managor scoring from every angle, the Warriors zoomed ahead, 19-7, and never looked back to even their win-loss card at 2-2.
Managor piled up 28 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
Big man Mavii Suarez stepped up in the absence of Kent Cabañog and put up 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Managor and Suarez’s numbers more than made up for the horrendous performance of skipper John Reel Saycon, who managed just two points, missing all but one of seven attempts.
The Cobras certainly did not help their cause by shooting 32 percent from the field. The loss dropped them to 1-3. The team’s top gun, Shaquille Imperial was held to just 14 points on 5-of-17 shooting. He also had 14 rebounds. Big man Red Cachuela was the team’s other double-digit scorer with 13 points.
The scores:
USC 66 - Managor 28, Suarez 12, Mangubat 8, Jelliangao 4, Tan 4, Langres 4, Saycon 2, Laguyo 2, Marata 2
