CEBU CITY – University of San Carlos survived an endgame collapse to beat University of Cebu, 74-65, in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Warriors led by as many as 30 points but stepped off the gas pedal late in the game and the Webmasters took full advantage, with guard Justin Dacalos and Carlos Tabaquero pulling them to within seven, 63-70, with 53 seconds to go.

USC kept their composure, with Ian Bensig dousing the fire with a fadeaway jumper at the shotclock buzzer that paved the way for their third win in four outings.

Warriors head coach Junthy Valenzuela opted to utilize his reserves for most of the game and gave limited minutes to imports Espoir Toyambe and Shooster Olago. But in spite of that, Toyambe managed 13 points and six rebounds.

UC got 17 points from veteran Jan Auditor and 15 from Dacalos. Tabaquero added 10 but it was not enough as they fell to their third loss in four matches.
