University of Cebu rolls past Southwestern to stretch Cesafi win streak to 3

Webmasters outscore Cobras, 17-3, in opening period en route to the blowout

CEBU CITY – The University of Cebu Webmasters put down the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras, 66-49, for its third win in a row in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Wingman John Jabello put up 23 points, a few days after tallying 21 against the University of San Jose-Recoletos. He added five rebounds, two assists and three steals to help UC get the solo lead in the standings at 3-0.

Cameroonian big man Frederick Elombi had a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds along with three assists, five steals and four blocked shots while Justine Dacalos added 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

The writing was on the wall early in the game as UC held SWU-Phinma to just three points in the first en route to a 17-3 lead. The Cobras tried to keep within striking distance but the rest of the Webmasters got in on the scoring act, including crowd-favorite Joey Manguerra who thrilled fans with a pair of difficult lay-ups that helped UC head to the fourth, on top 50-30.

Shaquille Imperial paced the Cobras with 15 points while rookie big man Red Cachuela put up 14. The Cobras however, shot just 27% from the field.
