CEBU CITY – The University of Cebu Webmasters handily beat the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras, 67-57, for their eighth win in a row in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Former National University guard Darrell Shane Menina got the party started early, scoring 10 in the first canto to help push the Webmasters to a 40-23 lead by halftime.
The Webmasters barely broke a sweat in the second half as they brought their lead to a high of 23, 65-42, before cruising down the stretch.
Former Centro Escolar University guard Paul Galinato led UC with 18 points, hitting 4-of-8 three-pointers while wingman John Calvin Jabello put up 14 points and hauled down nine rebounds.
Cameroonian forward Frederick Elombe collected 13 points, nine boards, six assists to go with four steals while Menina ended up with 12 points, six assists and three steals.
The Cobras dropped to 2-7 and still couldn't find an ideal solution to their offensive woes as William Polican and Shaquille Imperial were the only players to reach double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Compounding matters was the ankle sprain that rookie big man Red Cachuela suffered, putting his status for this weekend’s games in jeopardy.
