UNIVERSITY of Cebu defeated University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 81-56, in the deciding game of their semifinal match-up on Saturday to reach the title series of the 2019 Cesafi high school basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
UC battles SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles for the title, with Game One set on Monday.
The Baby Webmasters took control in the second period, scoring 18 straight points to build a 34-9 lead.
Although USPF managed to pull to within nine on several occasions, UC had an answer to every uprising with Vanvan Sevillejo, Kenyon Pondoc and Isaiah Blanco keeping their opponents at bay until the final buzzer.
Sevillejo led UC with 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals, while Pondoc added 18 points. Blanco, son of Cebuano basketball star Dondon Hontiveros, had 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. King Balaga chipped in with 10 points.
Elijah Singson led USPF with 10 points as their prolific guard Kyle Ochavo was held down to nine points after exploding for 30 points in the double-overtime win over UC on Thursday.
