CEBU CITY – University of the Visayas brought Cebu Institute of Technology-University back down to earth with a 98-79 thumping in the 2018 Cesafi basketball tournament on Tuesday evening at the Cebu Coliseum.

After playing the role of giant killers last week, the Wildcats were put in their place by the two-time defending champions Green Lancers, who got off to a strong start and never looked back. UV led by 23 points, 79-56, and cruised to their seventh win in 10 games, continuing their remarkable turnaround from a sluggish start.

After starting the season with two straight losses, the Green Lancers are now in sole possession of second place, overtaking the idle University of San Jose-Recoletos.

Six players scored in double figures for UV led by Toto Segumpan who had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Michael Maestre had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Rey Suerte had 15 points. Jafet Claridad added 14, Jiesel Tarrosa chipped in 11 while Gileant Delator contributed 10 in the wire-to-wire win.

CIT-U’s two-game run highlighted by an 81-75 win over the frontrunning University of Cebu, came to an end as they again slipped to the bottom at 2-8.

Rookie Kenny Rogers Rocacurva led the Wildcats with 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals while Jessie Aloro had 19 markers and eight boards before fouling out midway through the fourth period. Mark Christian Kong and Clark Con-ui had 14 and 11 points, respectively.
