    SWU Cobras, USC Warriors finally start Cesafi title series after three-week break

    CEBU CITY — Southwestern University and University of San Carlos get back in action on Monday as the Cesafi men’s basketball title series finally gets going after a three-week wait.

    Game One of the best-of-five championship series tips off at 6:45 at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Focus will again be on Warriors’ imports Shooster Olago of Cameroon and Espoir Toyambi of Congo, while also expected to deliver are locals Charles Pepito, Victor Rabat, Ian Tagapan and Kiefer Lim as Ian Ortega is out for the rest of the tournament with a torn ACL.

    The Warriors topped the elimination round with nine wins in 10 games, including a 57-56 win over the Cobras.

    USC advanced by defeating last year’s champion University of the Visayas.

    Leading the Cobras is Cameroonian Landry Sanjo, who is averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds, while top locals include Mark Jayven Tallo, Fil-American JR Parker, Jovanie Luz and Anton Pardo.

    The opener of the title series marks only the second time the Cobras will play with a complete lineup. Fil-Canadian wingman Adams Mohammed rejoined the team in the semifinals.

    SWU reached the finals by stopping University of San Jose-Recoletos.
