CEBU CITY — Southwestern University claimed the 2019 Cesafi basketball title, ending University of the Visayas’ three-year reign with a 64-60 Game Three victory on Friday at the Cebu Coliseum.
It was the Cobras’ third Cesafi title and first since 2014.
Red Cachuela led the Cobras with 14 points and five rebounds, while Dyll Roncal had 13 points, five boards and five steals.
MVP Shaq Imperial also scored 13, while Senegal’s Lamine Thiam scored nine, and made 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Lass Coulibally paced UV with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Green Lancers used a 23-4 run to take a 46-44 lead heading to the final period, but the Cobras regained the lead, 59-58, after two Gerald Fernandez free throws with 1:55 to go. J. Panerio
