SOUTHWESTERN University won its third straight game, beating University of San Jose-Recoletos, 65-60, on Sunday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras fell behind by 10 early in the second period, 13-23, and continued to trail in the next two periods before flipping the switch in the fourth behind the aggressive play of former Far Eastern University Tamaraw guard Jovannie Luz, who scattered five points in an 11-2 run.

SWU was ahead, 50-49, when Luz got in on the run that started with Daryl Goloran’s two free-throws.

Anton Pardo hit a stepback jumper, Landry Sanjo made an inside bucket and Luz hit two free-throws and a 3-pointer that gave SWU a 63-53 lead, 3:48 to go.

The Jaguars closed to within five, 60-65, after a seven-point cluster by veteran guard James Regalado with 47 ticks left but that proved to be their last stand as SWU held on to the win.

In the juniors division, reigning champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu routed Cebu Institute of Technology, 78-58, for their second straight win.

Fil-Australian Joshua Sinclair had 13 points and five rebounds, while Janjan Jabonets posted a double-double of 12 and 11 boards.
