CEBU CITY — University of San Carlos rose to second spot in the standings with a 62-53 victory over University of San Jose-Recoletos in the Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Tuesday.
Nigerian forward Sommy Managor led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds as USC improved its win-loss record to 7-3 to move past idle University of the Visayas (6-3).
Southwestern University leads with a 7-2 record.
Kurt Trangia had a double-double of 13 markers and 10 boards while Roosvelt Jelianggao added 13 points to go with five rebounds and four assists for USC.
After a slow start, USC pulled ahead in the second period, 31-21, and extended it to 15 points, 54-39, on a triple by Froilan Mangubat and a three-point play by Jellianggao.
Miguel Gastador had 22 points for the Jaguars, in the bottom of the standings with a 2-8 record.
