CEBU CITY – Top seed Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and second-ranked University of the Visayas try to get ahead in the race for Cesafi juniors finals berths as the double round-robin semifinals start on Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The 2012 champion Magis Eagles begin the semifinal round against Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens while the Baby Lancers tangle with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers.
The sixth-ranked Panthers made the semifinals by ousting third seed University of San Carlos, 64-60, in their do-or-die game on Sunday.
Ateneo de Cebu and UV also made it to the semifinals last season before legal troubles involving the league and the parents of former USC player Scott Aying forced organizers to scrap the tournament altogether.
The Magis Eagles, led by Joshua Sinclair and Janjan Jaboneta, went unbeaten in eight games in the elimination round to advance to the semifinals outright. CIT-U meanwhile, disposed of the University of Cebu in the quarterfinals.
