CEBU CITY — Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu claimed its fourth straight Cesafi juniors title, completing a sweep of the finals with a 72-56 victory over University of Cebu on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum
The Magis Eagles scored the first 15 points and kept the Baby Webmasters from scoring until there was just 1:49 left in the first.
Justin Javelosa started the scoring barrage with two straight triples.
Eroll Pastor had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeremy Nacua also scored 14 points for the Magis Eagles.
Former Batang Gilas guard Jed Colonia tallied nine points, six rebounds and four assists, and was named Most Valuable Player for the second straight season.
Colonia was joined on the Mythical Five by Pastor, Cebu Eastern College’s James Tempra, University of the Visayas’ Jancork Cabahug and UC’s Gelmart Umpad.
SHS-Ateneo de Cebu coach Rommel Rasmo praised his players for their resiliency, especially after dropping two games earlier in the tournament to the Baby Webmasters.
“I just told them to stay positive. I believed in the players and I know that we were capable of beating UC if we just kept playing our brand of basketball,” said Rasmo who is bidding to become the first coach in league history to win both the high school and college crowns in a season.
Johnbryl Cuyos led UC with 14 while Jason Abejo and Gabisan had 11 markers each.
