CEBU CITY –University of Santo Tomas held off the reigning Cesafi champion University of San Carlos, 63-58, on Saturday to reach the finals of the Recoletos de Cebu Cup evening at the University of San Jose-Recoletos gym.
Renzo Subido scored 15 points, hitting clutch free-throws down the stretch that helped secure the win for the visiting Tigers.
Reggie Basibas added 10 for UST which swept the three-game single round robin elimination.
The Tigers take on the home team University of San Jose-Recoletos in the title game on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers beat the Jaguars, 73-60, in the opening game of the invitational tournament.
UST led by as many as 15 and were ahead, 53-42, entering the final period when Kevin Oleodo sparked an 11-2 USC run with two straight three-pointers that got the Warriors within 53-55.
However, Subido’s consistency from the line and a bucket from veteran banger Kent Lao kept USC at bay and pushed UST to victory.
Victor Rabat led USC with 17 points while Lucky Ecarma and Gio Laguyo added 11 each.
