CEBU CITY – The Worthy-University of the Visayas Green Lancers took a step closer to claiming the Cesafi preseason title as they battered the Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 80-67, in Game One of the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup Finals on Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Lancers got off to a fast start, leading 23-9 after the first period and were never really threatened the rest of the game.
UV had five players scoring in double-figures led by sniper Tristan Albina, who continued to wax hot from the outside en route to scoring 16 markers.
Rey Suerte filled the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, while Jerome Napao and Liberian import Bassiere Sackor each scored 12, with the latter adding 18 rebounds across his name.
Promising big man Michael Macion also punched in 10 for UV, which gained a measure of revenge against USJ-R which beat the Green Lancers, 79-72, in the semis.
The undermanned Jaguars were led by RJ Dinolan with 18 points. Former FEU Baby Tam Tricky Peromingan added 14, Nelvin Navarra contributed 12, and Jaybie Mantilla notched 10.
