UV Green Lancers stretch streak to three with win over lowly UC Webmasters
Rhaffy Octobre and the UV Green Lancers stay firmly in third place.

CEBU CITY – University of the Visayas scored its third straight win, downing University of Cebu, 76-50, on Tuesday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Lancers tightened their grip on third place with their fourth win in seven games.

UC kept it close in the first half and trailed by only six, 29-35, before UV pulled away with a strong third period sparked by an 11-0 run.

Veteran forward Chris Perolino and rookies Alwyn Aguirre and Jan Soliva led the way to push the Lancers’ lead to 15, 46-31.

Another scoring barrage capped by a steal and a lay-up by Matt Oche made it 60-41 going to the final frame.

Import Jeffakins Aguara had his best game of the tournament so far, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds while Rhaffy Octobre added 10 markers.

The Webmasters have lost five straight games and remain at the bottom at 1-6.

In the juniors division, UC turned a 22-point deficit into a 27-point victory, beating Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 91-64.

The Baby Webmasters found themselves trailing, 16-38, in the second period before roaring back in the third where they outscored the Dragons, 46-10.

Daryl Shane Menina scored 25 of his 39 points in that stretch. He also had five rebounds, seven assists and five steals as UC improved its record to 4-3 while CEC, the 2010 champions, dropped to 1-5.
