CEBU CITY — University of the Visayas salvaged third place as it downed University of San Jose-Recoletos, 62-50, on Saturday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV trailed 20-30 before unleashing a 9-2 run allowed them to close in, 29-32, at halftime.

National youth team member Leonard Santillan scored four straight points to cap a 9-0 run to put The Green Lancers in front, 38-33, at the start of the third and the deposed champions never looked back, winning the best-of-three series, 2-1.

USJ-R pulled within five, 46-51, after a triple by rookie Mac Labares. But UV's graduating players refused to let this one go as Chris Perolino hit a pair of threes and John Abad sank a floater to push the lead back up to double-figures with 1:06 to go.

Jun Manzo scored 15 points for UV. John Abad, playing in his final game in the Cesafi, added a dozen markers, while Perolino dropped in 11 points.

Labares paced the Jaguars with 11 points while graduating guard James Regalado had 10 markers.
