CEBU CITY – Southwestern University beat University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 77-67, on Tuesday to grab a share of the lead in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

Rookie Shaquille Imperial hit five three-pointers and finished with 16 points as SWU tied the idle University of the Visayas at the top at 2-0.

Bernie Bregondo, back after missing last season due to academic issues, also had 16 markers for the Phinma Cobras.

Imperial started the third period with a rare four-point play that sparked a 10-2 blast, raising SWU’s lead to 45-36.

The Cobras continued to sink three-pointers and pushed their lead to 17.

Two-time MVP Mac Tallo and John Lloyd Luz sank two triples each in the third and finished with 11 and seven points, respectively.

Lyndon Colina scored 23 points for the Tyron Properties Panthers, who lost their third match in a row.
