CEBU CITY — University of Southern Philippines Foundation scored its first victory and kept Cebu Institute of Technology-University winless, 69-67, on Sunday in the 16th Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Roy Quiachon capped off his 18-point, 11-rebound performance with his biggest basket of the night – a putback with 6.6 seconds remaining to give the Panthers their first win in five matches.

Gilbert Sastrillas, Mark Tenebroso and John Batac had 10 points each as the Panthers dealt the Wildcats their sixth loss in as many matches.

The Wildcats held a 49-44 lead at the start of the fourth but the Panthers scored nine unanswered points to gain the upper hand, 53-49.

CIT-U fought back to grab the driver’s seat, 64-62, after a triple from the corner by Steve Bucao, 1:24 remaining.

Quiachon stole an outlet pass and equalized the count with a lay-up.

It was an exchange from there before Quiachon squeezed in between several defenders to snatch the offensive rebound off a miss and put it back in to give the Panthers the lead with 6.6 ticks to go.

CIT-U still had a chance to tie the game after Rey Navarro was fouled with 1.6 seconds left. But he missed both free-throws as time expired.
