USJ-R Jaguars keep Partners Cup finals bid alive, eliminate UC Webmasters

CEBU CITY – University of San Jose-Recoletos stayed in the hunt for a finals berth, while eliminating University of Cebu, 82-77, on Sunday in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Jaguars improved its record in the round-robin semifinals to 1-1, joining the Southwestern University Cobras.

University of the Visayas has advanced to the finals with a 2-0 mark, while University of Cebu is out after two losses in as many games.

The two teams battled back and forth but Jaybie Mantilla and Miguel Gastador exploded for nine points each in the final canto to help the Mighty Sports USJR grab the win and stay alive in the race to the finals.

RJ Dinolan led the Jaguars with 21 points, Tricky Peromingan chipped in 17 and big man Edmundo Bayhonan contributed 13.

Justine Dacalso and Peter Codilla led Highlands Corned Beef UC in scoring with 14 points each.

Rookie big man Mark Olmilla tallied 13 points while JR Puerto and Gileant Delator had 10 points apiece
