SWU Cobras beat UC Webmasters to stay unbeaten in nine games

CEBU CITY – Southwestern University made it nine wins in nine games with a 81-65 rout of University of Cebu on Sunday in the 16th Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras took advantage of an injury-riddled Webmasters, moving ahead 22-10 and cruising to victory.

Two-time MVP Macmac Tallo led the Cobras with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists and John Lloyd Luz added 13 markers, 10 coming in the fourth, which helped quell a comeback try by the Webmasters missing key players including prized rookie Gileant Delator.

SWU led by as many as 19 points but UC sliced it down to 11, 57-68, as JR Puerto capped a nine-point final frame with two free-throws.

Luz responded with a triple, and after Ian Ortega split his charities, added another one to raise their lead to 75-57, and seal the win with 3:05 to go.

Puerto scored 19 while Justine Dacalos added 13 for UC, which dropped to 2-5.
