CEBU CITY — University of Cebu routed University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers, 91-72, in the opening game of the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup on Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum.

JR Puerto scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Jhan Jabello added 12 points for the Highlands Corned Beef Webmasters.

Geleant Delator and Clint Suelto added 11 apiece for UC.

“I’m satisfied with their performance. I told them before the game started that all of them would be playing. This tournament was made to give them exposure and I was willing to give them that provided that they perform and execute what was asked of them,” said Kern Sesante, a former guard for UC who was tapped as coach during the offseason.

The Webmasters already held a 45-26 lead at halftime and increased it to 48-26 early in the second half.

The Panthers trimmed the deficit to nine, 37-48, after a searing rally capped by a triple by Kent Cada.

UC though, refused to let go and built the lead back up to 64-50 heading to the last frame.

JP Batac and Lyndon Colina scored 10 each for the Tyron Properties Panthers.
