University of Cebu turns back titleholder Sacred Heart to stay unbeaten in Cesafi juniors
The Baby Webmasters score their third win in as many games.

CEBU CITY — University of Cebu gained a measure of revenge against the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu as the Baby Webmasters downed three-time defending champions Magis Eagles, 62-55, on Tuesday in the 16th Cesafi juniors basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

In their first meeting since their championship series last season, the Baby Webmasters played with a purpose and held the Magis Eagles opponents to just five points in the fourth — two in the last six minutes — to capture their third win in as many games.

Lanky forward Luigi Gabisan had a huge double-double of 23 points and 14 boards.

Four-foot-11 Gelmart Umpad also stood tall against the giants of Ateneo de Cebu with an all-around effort of 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals while his backcourt mate, John Bryl Cuyos, tallied 14 points, grabbed four boards, dished out five assists, swiped three steals and blocked two shots.

The match was tied at 53-all after Magis Eagles guard Koko Tuadles sank a three-pointer with a little over six minutes left. But suddenly, the well ran dry for Ateneo de Cebu and UC capitalized with Gabisan and Cuyos taking turns punching holes in the Magis Eagles’ defense to build a 61-53 lead with just 52 ticks remaining.

Errol Pastor paced the Magis Eagles with 12 points and 10 rebounds but had 10 turnovers. Andrew Velasco and Jed Colonia each had 11 for SHS, which fell to 2-1.
