CEBU CITY – Mark Jayven Tallo scored the last six points for Southwestern University, including the game-winning tip-in with 1.6 seconds left, to lift the Cobras to a 63-61 win over the defending champion University of the Visayas Green Lancers on Tuesday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Tallo finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as the Cobras scored their eighth win in nine games.

SWU trailed by as many as 12 and was down by seven, 54-61, when Bendly Valdor sparked a rally with a long triple.

UV had a shot to push their lead further but Franz Arong missed two free throws and Tallo, after drawing a blocking foul off Green Lancers import Jeff Aguara, tied the game at 61 with two shots from the stripe with 38 seconds to go.

The Green Lancers again had an opportunity to steal the victory but turned the ball over on their offensive. Tallo then drove the length of the floor but missed the lay-up. But the 6-foot guard did not give up on the play and tipped the ball in to give SWU the lead, 63-61, with 1.6 ticks left.

UV suffered its sixth loss in 10 games.

Cameroonian reinforcement Landry Sanjo led the way for the Cobras with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Bernie Bregondo and Anton Pardo chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Aguara paced UV with 16, while Alfred Codilla and Rhaffy Octobre had 12 apiece and John Abad scored 10.
