JOSHUA Marata nailed seven three-pointers to lead University of San Carlos to a 71-62 win over University of the Visayas on Sunday in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Marata finished with 27 points as the Warriors notched their sixth win in nine games.
The Warriors led by 20 points, 66-46, after a three-pointer by Kurt Trangia in the fourth before falling silent, allowing the Lancers to score the next 14 points to pull to within six, 60-66, with still 1:08 left.
Marata doused the fire by making a three-pointer from the corner, before making two free-throws to put the win on ice for USC.
Jancork Cabahug scored 10 points for UV, which shares the top of the standings with Southwestern University at 6-2.
UV struggled to find the basket all game long as nobody else managed to reach double-figures.
