Balot Doctora, Javier Patino, Ace Villanueva called up as Azkals injury woes mount

    Jun 9, 2017

JEFFREY Christiaens and Hikaru Minegishi will not be joining the Philippine men’s football squad in their trip to Dushanbe where the Azkals take on Tajikistan in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers on June 13.

The two, playing for Ceres and Global, respectively, sustained injuries in their friendly against China and were already sent back home to get further treatment.

Kaya’s Anton Ugarte, also initially part of the 23-man lineup for China and Tajikistan, likewise didn’t make the trip even before the friendly also owing up to injury.

Veteran striker Balot Doctora of Stallion Laguna was the late addition to the squad, though the 31-year-old pride of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo isn’t new to playing for the national team having six caps and a goal under his belt.

Joining him in flying to Tajikistan is Meralco Manila goalkeeper Ace Villanueva who was also included in the initial 23-man lineup but didn’t fly in for China.

Prolific marksman Javier Patino, who plays in the Chinese Super League for Henan Jianye, will also be available for action after missing their friendly against China.

If there’s any good news for the Azkals, Misagh Bahadoran, James Younghusband and Daisuke Sato look to be fit after also getting injury scares against China.

Younghusband and Sato had to subbed in the first half of that match while Bahadoran was stretchered off in the waning moments of the 8-1 blowouts while clutching on his knee.

Here is the full 21-men lineup for the match against Tajikistan.
