CEBU CITY – Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos held off a furious comeback by My Led Opto-Cebu Institute of Technology-University to prevail, 70-63, in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup on Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Jaguars were in full control of the match and held a 59-41 lead going to the final 10 minutes of play.
But the Wildcats slowly clawed their way back and trimmed the deficit to 60-67 after five straight points by talented rookie forward Rey Navarro time down to final 1:53.
The Jaguars though responded with a keyhole jumper by Albert Catiloc to keep the Wildcats at bay en route to the rousing win.
Cesafi Mythical Five forward RJ Dinolan scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds to pace USJ-R, while former Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraw Tricky Peromingan chipped in 17 and high-leaping guard Miguel Gastador tallied 13.
Navarro scored 24 markers in an impressive debut for the Wildcats, who played without star forward Joshua dela Cerna due to an injured calf muscle.
