CEBU CITY — University of Cebu used a 20-8 endgame run to whip University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 103-92, on Tuesday for its first win in the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Down 83-84 with less than five minutes remaining, the Webmasters played tough defense and forced one turnover after another to score easy points and claim the victory, new head coach Kern Sesante’s very first in the league.
Gileant Delator had 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, while Justine Dacalos had a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards with six assists.
Joven Tagudin came off the bench and posted 17 points while Jhan Calvin Jabello scored 14 before being pulled out in the fourth with to an abdominal injury.
The Webmasters held a 79-72 lead early in the fourth after they opened the final stretch with an 8-2 run capped by a teardrop by Tagudin.
The Panthers used a 12-4 blast punctuated by a corner trey from Roy Quiatchon for an 84-83 edge before Dacalos sparked the game-ending run with a lay-up followed by a three-pointer from the corner by big man Mark Olmilla.
Kimo Bajamunde Bajamunde led USPF with 17 points, Roy Quiatchon scored 16, and Lyndon Colina had 15 markers for the Panthers.
