CEBU CITY – Former Far Eastern University guard John Lloyd Luz scored 18 points to help the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras overcome the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats, 68-64, in the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Luz, a cat-quick guard who played for the Tamaraws several years ago before finding a second home down south, scored eight of his total output in the fourth to help keep the pursuing Wildcats at bay.

Returning big man Bernie Bregondo added 12 points and eight boards while two-time Cesafi MVP Mac Tallo added 10 markers and six rebounds.

The win was the Cobras' second in a row after opening the season with a resounding 68-54 spanking of the defending champions University of San Carlos Warriors.

The bulk of CIT-U’s points came from their point guards as Steve Bucao led the Wildcats with 12 while Marlo Pono and Wilkins Sanchez had 11 and 10, respectively.

The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

    The scores:

    SWU (68) Luz 18, Bregondo 12, Tallo 10, Nzuzi 7, Barte 6, Polican 3, Pardo 3, Ortega 2, Imperial 1

    CIT-U (64) Bucao 12, Sanchez 11, Pono 10, Navarro 9, Lucena 6, Ariar 4, Alicaway 4, Maglasang 2, Rosell 2, Manatad 2
