CEBU CITY — University of Cebu beat erstwhile Cesafi leader University of the Visayas, 83-66, on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
UC took control with a 15-2 run that bridged the third and fourth periods to erect a 21-point lead.
UV managed to bring the deficit down to 10 but the Webmasters held on, with Darrell Shane Menina hitting a pair of clutch shots to seal the win, completing a sweep of their rivals in the elimination round this season.
UC is in fourth place with a 5-3 record while UV fell to a tie for second place with idle University of San Carlos at 6-3.
Southwestern University leads with a 7-2 record.
Menina ended up with 26 points and five assists, while Luigi Gabisan added 14 points.
Jabello chipped in 12 points while Tosh Sesay of Sierra Leone had a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds to go with four assists and three blocks.
UV used a 14-3 run that pulled them to within 10 points, 62-72, with 2:56 left on the clock. But that was as close as UV would get as Menina canned a lay-up while Gabisan made a three-pointer to secure the win.
Jancork Cabahug led UV with 19 points.
