CEBU CITY — Rey Suerte and Jiesel Tarrosa showed the way as the University of the Visayas Green Lancers scored a 107-96 win over University of San Jose-Recoletos in the Partner’s Cup Preseason Tournament on Tuesday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Green Lancers led by 14 points, but the Casino Active Jaguars fought back and came within three, 54-57.
Former Cesafi MVP Suerte delivered key baskets to steer his team to their second win in a row and send USJ-R to their third consecutive defeat.
Suerte and Tarrosa finished 18 points each, while reserve guard Gileant Delator pumped in 17. Skipper Josue Segumpan added 15 markers.
The Jaguars were within four, 61-65, when Suerte scored seven in a 10-0 run by UV capped by a gorgeous left-handed flip shot.
USJ-R pulled to within five, 85-90, Suerte punctuated a 7-0 surge with an and-one off a strong drive along the baseline that pushed UV ahead, 97-85.
Reigning Cesafi MVP Jaybie Mantilla scored 28 for USJ-R while Tricky Peromingan and Miguel Gastador had 18 apiece.
