CEBU —University of the Visayas snapped a two-game skid with a 72-59 win over University of Cebu in the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Green Lancers scofred their seventh win in 11 games to gain a share of second place with University of San Jose-Recoletos behind unbeaten Southwestern University.
Liberian import Bassiere Sackour took advantage of UC’s undersized frontline, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Josue Segumpan scores 11 points, making three of six shots from beyond the arc.
The victory gives UV a boost heading to its much-anticipated second round match with bitter rival SWU.
UV head coach Gary Cortes says their focus remains on getting their rhythm and flow back ahead of the playoffs.
“Of course, we would like to get a win but really, we’re not just preparing for a single game against SWU. We’re preparing for the quarterfinals,” said Cortes.
The Webmasters finished the double round-robin elims with a 3-8 mark and will be the fifth seed in the quarterfinals.
