CEBU CITY – University of San Jose-Recoletos guard Miguel Gastador won the Slam Dunk try on his third try, wowing the crowd during the Cesafi All Star Festivities on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Gastador had joined the previous two editions of the competition and was the overwhelming favorite in each one before shoddy rules ruined his campaign in each one.
This year, with the competitors being given more freedom to show off, Gastador took full advantage, delivering a two-handed slam, cocking the ball before dunking it in. That gave him a score of 49 in the first round.
Gastador wowed the judges with a 360 slam that gave him a perfect score of 50 to beat his Jaguars teammate Albert Catiloc.
As an added treat, Gastador hammered home a huge left-handed tomahawk slam.
In the other events, University of the Visayas' Tristan Albina made it two in a row as he won the Three-Point Shootout by the skin of his teeth. The Dumaguete-bred guard scored 16 points in the finals, which proved enough to edge Southwestern University-Phinma’s Shaquille Imperial and the University of San Carlos’ Kevin Oleodo who each had 15.
Oleodo nearly had the win but missed his last two shots from the last rack.
USJ-R’s Van Tindoy and CIT-U’s Marl Laguna also won the high school and college crowns, respectively, in the first ever Cesafi obstacle course competition.
