CEBU CITY – The University of Cebu Baby Webmasters took a step closer to settling some unfinished business as they routed the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 61-45, to nab the last ticket to the finals of the 16th Cesafi high school basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win placed UC in the finals for the second straight year where they will be taking on the very same squad that kept them from the title last season – the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles.
However, the Baby Webmasters have proven themselves capable of throttling the vaunted Magis Eagles this season. UC is the only squad that can lay claim to victories over the three-time defending champions after the Baby Webmasters beat the Magis Eagles, 62-55, in the elimination round before repeating the feat, 73-68, in the round-robin semis.
The Baby Webmasters, though, had to engineer a sizzling second half surge to get the win after trailing by eight, 33-41, in the third period.
Luigi Gabisan carried the scoring load for UC with 20 points while 4-foot-11 guard Gelmart Umpad added 13.
