CEBU CITY — The East All Stars completed a sweep of the high school and college Cesafi All-Star games on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The East beat the West, 92-73, in the high school match before their collegiate counterparts ended the day with a 74-69 victory.
Southwestern University-Phinma star Macmac Tallo won the college game’s MVP honors as he sparked the East’s second-half surge and ended up with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
He was joined in the game’s Mythical Five by the East’s Conrad Catapusan of the University of San Carlos. of Cebu’s Gileant Delator and the West’s Jerome Napao and Josue Segumpan, both of the University of the Visayas.
Catapusan scored five straight points in the third to put the East in front, 56-54, after trailing 35-40 at halftime.
The East scored the game’s first eight points and led, 24-19, after the first but the West took over in the second, using an 11-0 blast highlighted by back to back three-pointers from Miguel Gastador for a 30-24 lead.
The East got going again in the third, with Catapusan scoring an and-one and a baseline jumper for a 56-54 lead heading to the fourth.
In the high school game, Don Bosco forward Al Mendez shone the brightest as he registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and was named MVP.
League juniors MVP Jed Colonia of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
The West squad was led by UV’s Jancork Cabahug, who had 22 points and 17 boards.
Named to the Mythical Five were the East’s Mendez and his Greywolves teammates JB Damolo and Colonia, and the West’s Cabahug and James Tempra of the Cebu Eastern College.
