CEBU CITY – The Cebu Institute of Technology-University got past University of Cebu, 66-58, to earn solo second spot in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
It was the second win in three games for the Wildcats, who were coming off a loss against league-leading Southwestern University Cobras.
Undersized power forward Joshua dela Cerna led the way with 29 points, capped by a fade-away jumper that put the Wildcats on top, 62-50, late in the final frame.
The Webmasters came within 56-63 after two free-throws by Jan Auditor with 29 second left, but Steven Bucao sealed the win for CIT-U with a basket in the team’s next possession.
UC fell to a 1-2 (win-loss) slate and spoiled the breakout game of rookie guard Justin Dacalos who finished with 33 points, four rebounds, and four steals.
