Myongji University turns back Cesafi champion SWU Cobras in four-team Cebu tilt

MINGLANILLA, Cebu — The visiting Myongji University White Horse grabbed their first win of the 10th Asian University Basketball Championship, beating newly-crowned Cesafi champion Southwestern University, 73-63, on Friday at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Myongji next faces Cesafi runner-up University of San Carlos Warriors, which bowed to University of the Visayas, 78-83.

UV and USC ended up with identical 2-1 records but the former ended up as semis top seed by virtue of the win over the other rule.

UV and SWU battle on Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Institute for a place in the final.

Rhaffy Octobre led the Lancers with 17 points, while rookie Jerome Napao added 13. John Abad and Alfred Codilla chipped in 11 apiece.

UV (83) Octobre 17, Napao 13, Abad 11, Codilla 11, Manzo 8, Perolino 7, Akomo 7, Soliva 3, Segumpan 3, Mpouma 2.

USC (78) Magat 17, Tagapan 16, Olago 13, Rabat 9, Toyambi 7, Pepito 5, Lim 4, Malana 2.
