CEBU CITY – Fil-American rookie guard Jasper Parker scored on a lay-up over the outstretched arms of Cameroon’s Shooster Olago with 2.7 seconds left to lift Southwestern University past upset-conscious University of San Carlos, 69-67, on Sunday in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Cameroonian import Landry Sanjo paced last year’s runners-up with 25 points and 11 rebounds just two weeks after coming back from an abdominal surgery to remove ulcers. He also made the basket that tied the count at 67 with 31.7 ticks left.

USC guard Raz Asuncion’s halfcourt heave missed to the left as time expired.

Reigning league MVP Mark Jayven Tallo had 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals, fueling the Cobras’ comeback with eight straight points at the start of the final period that put them in front, 59-53.

The Warriors responded with 11 unanswered points to regain the upper hand, 64-59, before the Cobras scored six straight to seize a 65-64 lead.
