Wildcats set up finals rematch with Lancers

May 29, 2013

CEBU Institute of Technology set a title rematch with University of the Visayas, downing University of San Carlos, 76-61, Tuesday in the 2013 Enervon-Cesafi Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

The win improved the Wildcats’ win-loss card in the single round-robin semifinal round to 2-1, earning them the second finals berth. The best-of-three championship series begins Wednesday.

The Lancers earlier extended their unbeaten streak in the tournament to 13 games with a 76-65 victory over University of Cebu.

CIT erected a 45-24 lead at halftime and never let up. USC trimmed it to 10 with a 10-0 run capped off by a steal and an uncontested lay-up by Stephen Que with nine minutes remaining.

But the Wildcats finished strong behind the solid play of incoming rookie forward Joshua dela Cerna, who scored nine points in a 14-0 blast, including a three-point play that made it 70-56, with 5:04 left.

Dela Cerna finished with 29 points and Vincent Menguito, another newcomer, had 11.
