COLEGIO de San Lorenzo drew another big game from Soulemane Chabi Yo and beat Olivarez College, 86-72, to momentarily seize the solo lead in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Sea Lions’ home floor in Sucat, Parañaque City.

The 6-foot-6 Chabi Yo sparked the team’s onslaught in the second canto that enabled them to wipe out an early eight-point deficit and post their second straight win in as many outings.

He finished with 27 points – the bulk came in the second quarter – and 20 rebounds in a performance that earned for himself raves from coach Bonie Garcia.

The win was a fitting sequel to an equally impressive 112-77 victory over Lyceum-Batangas over the weekend, giving Colegio de San Lorenzo a hold of the top spot in the eight-team field.

“It took us a while to get our acts together but once Soulemane got his groove, we just played on another level,” said Garcia.

Garcia also paid tribute to second-string playmaker Thristan Laman, who accounted for five of the Griffins’ 19 assists that saw them unleash a punishing 17-0 run.

Raymart Sablan added 17 points, 13 of them coming in the second half, while big man Jon Gabriel went a rebound shy of a double-double with 15 markers and nine boards to help the CDSL’s cause.

Backups Lawrence Castro and Pruvil Bermudes combined for 25 markers but top gun Dwight Saguiguit had another anaemic showing with six markers as the Sea Lions, despite a familiar home court advantage, remained winless after two matches.
