INJURIES hounded Filipino players at the end of the calendar year at the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Carl Tamayo put up 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists in Changwon LG Sakers’ 74-72 thriller over Suwon KT SonicBoom at Changwon Gymnasium on Saturday.
However, a groin injury sidelined him in the Sakers’ 94-60 rout of Wonju DB Promy on Sunday at the same venue.
Despite that, Changwon remains at the top half of the league standings with a 13-10 card powered by their eight-game win streak.
Reigning KBL MVP Ethan Alvano only had eight points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the defeat as Ulsan went down to 11-13.
SJ Belangel also suffered a left knee injury in Daegu KOGAS Pegasus’ 76-73 win over Goyang Sono Skygunners on Saturday at Daegu Gymnasium.
He finished with 12 points, five boards, three steals and a rebound to help his side move up to 13-9.
Justin Gutang steered the Seoul Samsung Thunders to a 100-78 blasting of Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters at Anyang Gymnasium on Saturday.
The former St. Benilde star drained three treys and finished with 23 points. He completed an all-around performance with his four rebounds, four assists, and four steals to help his side improve to 7-15.
Javi Gomez de Liano played only two minutes and went scoreless for 7-16 Anyang.
Migs Oczon went scoreless in Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus’ 84-67 blasting of Goyang Sono on Sunday at Dongcheon Gymnasium.
He missed all of his three shots but grabbed two rebounds in eight minutes of play. Still, Ulsan earned back-to-back wins to stay at second with a 16-7 record.
The Skygunners, which are still waiting for the arrival of back-to-back UAAP Season MVP Kevin Quiambao, remain near the bottom with an 8-15 record.
