CARL Tamayo steered Changwon LG Sakers to a big 75-66 Game One win over Seoul SK Knights in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Finals on Monday night at Jamsil Student Gymnasium.
The Mythical Team member erupted for 24 points on 4-of-8 shooting from deep, to go with 10 rebounds, two assists, and one block to help his side steal homecourt advantage in the best-of-seven championship series.
Quickfire Tamayo sets the tone
Tamayo uncorked 10 of Changwon's 28 points in the second quarter when the Sakers raced to a 42-35 halftime lead before holding off repeated rallies from the top-seeded Knights.
Assem Marei added 19 points, 14 boards, five steals, and four dimes, as Yang Jun-seok and Heo Il-young both chimed in nine apiece.
The SK Knights leaned on Jameel Warney's 21 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.
Asian quota import Juan Gomez de Liaño was not fielded in the series opener.
