CARL Bryan Cruz knocked in five three-pointers including three in the fourth period as Far Eastern University defeated Letran, 85-75, on Saturday to remain unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Cruz finished with 16 points and led a critical 8-0 run in the final quarter that allowed the Tamaraws (3-0) to put away the Knights and hold on to the top spot in Group B.
With FEU trailing 69-70, Cruz hit a triple to jumpstart the telling run that gave the Tamaraws a 77-70 lead. He added another three to make it 80-72 with two minutes left in the game.
FEU coach Nash Racela played down the team’s hot start to the preseason tournament which the school is using as part of its preparation for the UAAP season.
“We are not looking at that right now,” Racela said. “Ang importante sa amin is for the coaches to know the players na mayroon kami.”
Mike Tolomia added 17 points and nine assists while Raymar Jose had 12 points for the Tamaraws, who will next face undefeated Lyceum (2-0) on Wednesday.
Letran, still winless after its double overtime defeat to San Beda in the season opener, got 20 points from Mark Cruz.
